Dental Care

Dental care is a priority at Hôpital vétérinaire Taschereau. Pets are just as sensitive as humans to the discomfort or pain that comes from oral health problems. If you notice changes in how your pet chews, a significant amount of tartar, redness of the gums, bad breath or other anomalies, let us know about your concerns and come see us for an in-depth check-up.

Why is your pet’s oral health important?

Dental problems are very common among pets. They can be avoided by taking some simple steps at home and by following your veterinarian’s recommendations at your pet’s yearly check-up. Not only will your pet’s overall health and quality of life be improved by eliminating needless suffering. You will also avoid complications (periodontal disease, infection, loosening teeth) and prevent the onset of other diseases.

What types of dental care are practiced at the clinic?

We offer the following services:

  • Complete check-up
  • Cleaning (scaling and polishing of all teeth)
  • Dental X-rays
  • Extractions
  • Advice and demonstrations of routine toothbrushing

Are dental treats and specialized dental food good enough?

Even though toothbrushing may seem like a lot of work for some pet owners, it is the best way to maintain excellent oral health. Dental treats and specialized food are nothing but extra protection.

That’s why it is important to become familiar with the routine of brushing your pet’s teeth regularly using special toothpaste (don’t forget the one for humans is toxic for your pet) and a soft toothbrush or a rubber tip for your finger. Your veterinarian will give you advice and share some good tips, including how to gradually introduce toothbrushing. Most importantly, don’t forget to reward your pet!
